Todd Dorsey, 39

MHS Graduate and Basketball Player

November 3, 1983 — November 29, 2022

Todd Dorsey died peacefully in his sleep and at home on November 29. He was 39.


Todd spent his early years in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia and graduated in 2002 from Montgomery High School, where he was a skilled basketball player. He played internationally, based in Ireland.


He liked reading books about philosophy and forged deep connections with his brothers and friends, despite facing incredible mental health challenges. He self-published a book titled “Yokohama,” expressing his heart for humanity. He loved watching and quoting movies, especially "First Blood," and he became an avid drone pilot, capturing scenes of nature in and around Lawrence, Kansas.


He is survived by his brothers: Kyle (his twin), Mark, and David; and his father Gene of Lawrence, Kansas formerly of Belle Mead, who took care of Todd in his later years. Todd was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy.


Donations in Todd’s memory can be made to Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, where Todd received services for his bipolar schizo-affective disorder. Condolences may be mailed to his father: Gene Dorsey, 2038 Emerald Drive, Lawrence, Kansas 66046.
