The Montgomery News Launches the First Episode of “Community Voices”

By Karen Dentler | December 22

The Montgomery News recently aired the first episode of “Community Voices,” a new series that showcases the people of the Montgomery region through short engaging videos.

The inaugural episode featured Montgomery Township Committeewoman-elect Shelly L. Bell in conversation with Diya Sethi, a senior at Montgomery High School. The upbeat interview began with Bell and Sethi discovering that they are both the oldest of their siblings and agreeing that oldest siblings automatically develop strong leadership skills.

During the 20-minute conversation, Sethi and Bell discussed Bell’s call to public service, the importance of role models, women in government, and lighter topics, including favorite local foods and films.

Sethi met Bell when she volunteered as a member of Bell’s campaign team. They reflected on their initiative titled “Take Out Tuesdays,” social media posts about Shelly's weekly orders from local eateries.

Bell said “It is important that our residents support our local businesses, especially during this time and help them generate some revenue.”

Sethi’s final question asked Shelly to give some advice to our community.

Bell answered, “Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress, but working together is success. Let’s all be successful. Let’s work together and be happy doing it.”

The episode ended with everyone grooving to Shelly’s favorite song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.
