Serious Accident on Route 518 in Montgomery

A local resident was injured and his 2012 BMW appeared to be totaled in an accident on Route 518 in Montgomery Township on Thursday at 7:19 am, according to police and residents on the scene.


Montgomery police identified the driver as Stephen Aoll, 39, of Montgomery Township. (He has a Princeton address, but resides in Montgomery). He was transported, and admitted to RWJ Hospital in New Brunswick and was listed in stable condition as of 1 pm today, police said. He was the only person in the car.

The road was closed to traffic for about 19 hours, and reopened on Friday, April 4 at 2:42 am according to a Nixle alert submitted by police. During this time, the Montgomery Police Department conducted a scene investigation, and PSE&G repaired a utility pole.


The car accident occurred on Route 518 (aka Georgetown-Franklin Tpke) near Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co #2 (Blawenburg Fire Co), between Mountain View and Burn Hill Rd.


Based on a preliminary scene investigation, Montgomery police determined that Mr. Aoll was driving east on Route 518. His vehicle crossed the center line, traveled across the westbound lane, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole.


No other vehicles were involved in the accident.


The Montgomery Police were assisted at the scene by Montgomery Township EMS, Montgomery Fire Company #2 (Station 46), Montgomery Township Public Works, Somerset County Road Department, and RWJ Medics.
