Raritan Resident Charged with DWI after Crashing into a Montgomey Township Home

Police charged a Raritan woman with DWI after she crashed into a Township Line Road residence in Belle Mead on September 20 at 3:11 pm.


No one inside the home was injured.

The driver, Tara Stankowitz, 49, of Raritan, failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of South Woods Road and Township Line Road before crashing into the garage section of the home. Police said she was driving a 2006 Nissan Altima.


Montgomery Police, MEMS, and Fire Companies 1 and 2 responded.


Township building inspectors responded to the scene to assess the structural damage.


A police investigation determined Stankowitz was operating under the influence. Police officers arrested her for DWI. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop at the stop sign, reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Stankowitz was treated at RWJ Somerset, and remained in police custody until her release following arrest processing. She is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Township Municipal Court.
