Peggy Fass, 71

OCTOBER 18, 1949 – MAY 31, 2021

(Montgomery school teacher; founder of Kid Connection and Congregation Kehilat Shalom)

Peggy Kaufman Fass, loving grandmother, mother, wife, and friend, died on May 31 at the age of 71 with her family by her side.

Peggy was born in Skillman on October 18, 1949 to Otto and Ruth Kaufman. She was raised on the family farm on Hollow Road, returning there after attending Long Island University and marrying Robert Fass in 1971.

Peggy and Bob raised two children while working as teachers in the Montgomery School District. Following in her parents’ footsteps, Peggy was a pillar of the community.

In 1980, she founded Montgomery Kid Connection, which grew into a beloved community resource. She was also a founding member of Congregation Kehilat Shalom and their nonsectarian pre-school, Kindercapers. She sang in the Congregation’s choir, as well as with La Shir in Princeton, and was a hospice volunteer.

The children in her life were her greatest passion and joy. She was known as “Grammy” to her grandchildren. Peggy loved animals and nature and her friends referred to her lovingly as “Mother Nature.”

In retirement, Peggy and Bob traveled the world with family and friends. In Deerfield Beach, Florida, she was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Deerfield Historical Society. Peggy will be remembered for her loving heart, compassionate spirit, and smiling blue eyes. She was warm, generous, and quick to laugh.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Bryan, who died in 2019.

She is survived by her husband Bob, daughter Debbie, son-in-law Alan Wierzbicki, and four beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle, Olivia, and Kevin, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to American Cancer Society and/or Congregation Kehilat Shalom, 253 Griggstown Rd., Belle Mead, NJ 08502.

In Peggy’s memory, please practice a random act of kindness for a child or animal.
