The inaugural season of the Monty Over 35 Basketball League has officially wrapped, and what a season it was! With eight teams, more than 60 players, and more knee braces than a CVS pharmacy, local basketball legends (at least in their own households) took to the hardwood at the Otto Kaufman Center every Tuesday and Wednesday night from January through March.

Last Dance wins the League Championship of the Over 35 Montgomery Township, New Jersey Basketball League.

Last Dance wins the League Championship. On left, in no particular order, are: Phil Worland, Ryan Murray, Michael Nashed, Sean Murray, Ramin “The Dream” Rezvani, Casey Harris, Franck “The Lefty Bomber” Lejeune, and defensive specialist Robin Azzam, along with their fans.

The Lakers, featuring Anil Patel, Ronak Patel, Chris Ullery, Jeremy Morris, John Jimenez, Akshat Tewary, and Ken Cruz, stormed through the regular season with the dominance of a dad calling fouls in a backyard game—going a perfect 8-0. But as history (and March Madness brackets) often prove, perfection in the regular season does not guarantee postseason glory.

When the playoffs arrived, the top four teams battled it out, and the Lakers’ undefeated run met an untimely demise at the hands of Last Dance, a squad that clearly saved their best moves for when it mattered most. Led by Phil Worland, Ryan Murray, Michael Nashed, Sean Murray, Ramin “The Dream” Rezvani, Casey Harris, Franck “The Lefty Bomber” Lejeune, and defensive specialist Robin Azzam, Last Dance lived up to their name—closing out the season in championship fashion.

The first-ever Monty Over 35 season had everything: buzzer-beaters, questionable calls, heroic performances, and at least one guy who forgot which basket was his. With the bar now set high (or at least at regulation rim height), anticipation for next season is already building.

Will the Lakers get their revenge? Will Last Dance repeat? And most importantly— how many players will show up next season in compression sleeves just for the look? Until next year, Monty ballers—keep the ice packs handy and the Advil close!
