New Member Appointed to Fill Unexpired Term on School Board

Vanita Nargund is the newest member of the Montgomery Board of Education. Nargund, who moved to Skillman in 2018 and has been a New Jersey resident since 1990, was appointed at the May 21 school board meeting. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Gulbarga University in Karnataka, India in 1986.

After being sworn in as a board member, she will serve on the board through the organization meeting on January 7, 2025. Nargund spent the last 13 years as a senior bookkeeper for the East Brunswick Board of Education, so she is expected to possess a deep understanding of budget management, financial planning, and operational efficiency within educational settings.


In her LinkedIn account, she says, “I report to the school district’s assistant superintendent and assist in managing the $6 million special education budget for the East Brunswick Board of Education by purchasing office supplies, assessment materials, and technology platforms from accredited vendors–Pearson Assessments, McGraw Hill Publications, School Specialty, Riverside, Apple, and Dell.


Her profile on the Montgomery School District website states that her responsibilities and experience with the East Brunswick school district have fostered a mindset that emphasizes fiscal responsibility and strategic resource allocation. Additionally, the school district website states that, “Nargund has shown a strong commitment to cultural and community initiatives.

As a member of the Indian Cultural Society of East Brunswick, Nargund championed support of an award to recognize a senior for excellence in the performing arts.” “She is also a dedicated member of the Indian community in Montgomery Township, having organized significant community events to leverage the diversity of our township and bring families and students closer together.”
