Nancy A. Walter, 80

Helped Build St. Borromeo Roman Catholic Church

( April 18, 1944 - July 21, 2024 )

Angel

Nancy Walter, 80, formerly of Belle Mead and Princeton, died July 21, 2024 at Chestnut Park Nursing Home, Oneonta, NY.

She was born April 18, 1944 in Stamford, CT, the daughter of Edwin and Dorothy (Schom) Knickerbocker.

Nancy grew up in Cumberland Head, Plattsburgh, NY.  She graduated from St John's Catholic High School and continued her education at Rosary Hill College in Amherst, NY, earning a bachelor's in history.

For a few years, Nancy resided in Elma, NY before moving to Belle Mead, NJ, and then on to Princeton, NJ where she spent most of her life. While in New Jersey she was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church.  Nancy was involved with this church being built up from a group of people who met in a high school auditorium to the great financial cost and pride of physically erecting a brand-new church in an open field.

Nancy loved St. Charles Borromeo Church, where she committed so much of her time. She was the First Coordinator of Religious Education, women's ministries, the service and justice ministry, and Eucharistic minister at Mass. She was a Lector at Daily Mass and a Eucharistic minister for the homebound. Nancy beamed with pride when she spoke of this church, Monsignor Greg, and of her trip to Ireland.  She loved Ireland and would talk about it to anyone who would listen.

Nancy was a big nature lover.  She loved her cats endlessly and she enjoyed watching birds.  She could always tell you what birds were coming to visit outside her window. She enjoyed reading, chatting on the phone, spending time with friends and family, and any church-related activities.

She is survived by her son, Aaron Louis Walter, of Atlanta, GA; brother, Daniel Knickerbocker, of Oneonta; niece, Lynn (Sean) Farrell and their children, Dillon and Maria; nephew, Edwin (Karen) Knickerbocker, and their children, Daniel and Jessica.  She is also survived by her dearest friends, Patricia and Brian Nolan, Patricia Hirst, and Judy Knowles.

The funeral mass will be at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 47 Skillman Rd., Skillman, NJ on August 15 at 10 am.

The committal service will be at St. Mary’s of the Lake & Divine Mercy Cemetery, 1202 Cumberland Head Rd., Plattsburgh, NY on a future date.
