Montgomery Police Officers Use Garden Hose to Help Fight a Fire on South Wiggins Lane

By Barbara A. Preston | July 22, 2022

A South Wiggins Lane resident dialed 911 to report a fire on July 14 at 7:42 am. Police officers, who were first on the scene, were able to help contain the flames using a garden hose and fire extinguishers until the Montgomery fire companies arrived and safely put out the fire.

The garage area of the home and a vehicle were destroyed, while the rest of the house sustained substantial smoke damage. No injuries were reported.

The fire started when a 17-year-old backed a 2022 Honda CRV Hybrid out of a garage and struck the side of the garage door frame with the front left of the vehicle. The relatively minor crash caused minimal damage to the vehicle, however, it somehow affected something within the engine compartment and the vehicle caught fire. It became disabled, half in and half out of the garage. The resident called 911 as the fire grew in intensity.
