Mary Smith Moorhead, 96

July 5, 1925 - August 2, 2021

(A charter member of the Montgomery Woman’s Club)

Mary Smith Moorhead died Monday, August 2, at the age of 96.

She was born in East Stroudsburg, PA on July 5, 1925. After graduating from high school, Mary attended Jefferson College and finished with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She had an accomplished career working first at Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, followed by St. Peter’s University Hospital, Princeton University Hospital, and a second tour at St. Peter’s University Hospital.

Mary moved to Montgomery with her husband, Charles A. Moorhead in 1965, putting down roots and lovingly raising their only son, Craig.

Following her 40-year nursing career, Mary remained active in her community—volunteering tirelessly at the Neshanic Reformed Church, the Princeton Elks, and the Montgomery Rodeo. One of her most proud achievements; however, was being a charter member of the Montgomery Woman’s Club.

Mary enjoyed crafting for church bazaars and traveling with family and friends visiting places both near and far, including Alaska, New Zealand, Australia and Ireland. She was also an avid reader, polishing-off countless romance novels, crossword puzzles, and word searches.

A two–time cancer survivor, Mary is predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Schnaufer and Annabelle Knorr, as well as her husband of 46 years, Charles A. Moorhead.

Mary is survived by her son, Craig A. Moorhead. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends and those whose lives she touched.

A memorial gathering for relatives and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 11, from 4 to 7 pm at the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 US Hwy 206, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.

In lieu of flowers, please help Mary’s compassion for others carry on by donating to the Neshanic Reformed Church in her memory or by volunteering at one the organizations Mary loved so much.
