Janice Yates Peters, 93

The Lady Who Always Smiled

(November 24, 1928 - April 23, 2022)


Dr. Janice Yates Peters of Flagtown, died in her home with her family on April 23, 2022. She was 93. Her daughter, Judith Peters, was a long-time leader of Montgomery Township's historical society, and had lived in the historic Mill Pond house in the Belle Mead section of down, until her premature death.


Janice was preceded in death by her father and mother Adlai Robin and Gladys Collins Yates of Bogalusa, LA; her husband, Dr. Timothy V. Peters; her elder daughter Judith A. Peters; her son Robin D. Peters; and her sister and brother-in-law Sallie Yates and Benton Holcomb Box of Clemson, SC.


She leaves behind her younger daughter Susan G. Peters, son-in-law John J. McDonald, her devoted cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many “borrowed” children from throughout the world. Letters of condolence may be sent to the Peters Family, PO Box 24, Flagtown, NJ 08821.

Janice Marilyn Yates was born November 24, 1928, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana, where she met and married her high school sweetheart. For the next 65 years Janice and Tim raised their children and pursued their educational degrees. After the children were raised, she earned two masters' degrees and one doctorate, then pursued a career working with special needs children. She retired at age 82.


Janice and her husband travelled and lived in many states and countries, including Venezuela and Italy. She embraced her family and friends with unconditional support and love. Janice would like to be remembered as the lady who always smiled.

Family and friends with memories to share of the Peters family are invited to join a memorial celebration of their lives. This celebration will be Tuesday May 3, 2022 between 7 pm and 9 pm at the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 Route 206 Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
