George Clevenger Jr., 85

A car mechanic and mason

(August 20, 1938 - September 12, 2023)

George Clevenger Jr., 85, of Skillman died on September 12, 2023 at Merwick Care Center, after several months of declining health. He was born and raised in Kingston.


George was a strong and determined man who did not have much formal education. He worked at Kingston Garage for many years as a mechanic, then as a mason at Thomas C. Perks, Inc. He eventually purchased Tom Perks’ business and renamed it George’s Interior Plaster and Mason. He worked it until his retirement in 2012. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna (Wellhauser), brother Lawrence, and sister Ida (Hillman).

He is survived by his wife, Carol (Collings) Clevenger, who he had been married to for 62 years, two daughters, Dorothy and husband Robert Decker and Judith Clevenger, grandchildren, Denise Decker and Christopher Decker, and his sisters, Marian (Princiotta), Ellen (Reside), and Lydia (Betts), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 pm to 3 pm with a funeral service at 3 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton, NJ 08542. All are invited to attend. Burial will be private.
