Residents in the Blawenburg section of Montgomery Township may need to mail their holiday packages from the Skillman Post Office this year, after a driver backed her SUV into into the tiny Blawenburg Post Office at 1693 Great Road on Monday, Dec. 16, during lunchtime.
Montgomery Police responded to the post office and determined Beth Watson, 79, of Skillman, was backing out of her parking spot at 12:10 pm when she crashed through the front door. Two individuals inside the building were not hurt.
A driver backed into the Blawenburg Post Office on Monday.
Watson told officers that after backing out of the spot, she thought she had put the vehicle in drive. After she stepped on the accelerator, the vehicle, which was still in reverse, backed into the front of the post office. She was not injured.
The post office sustained structural damage to the front of the building, and was inspected by Montgomery Township Code Enforcement. It is unknown when the post office may re-open.
Police ticketed Watson for careless driving. She is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Municipal Court.
On December 2, Montgomery Police responded to a Skillman residence in Cherry Valley Country Club area for a reported theft.
The victim informed officers that seasonal decorations had been stolen from the porch of the residence
on three separate occasions between Oct. 31 and Dec. 2. The victim provided officers with surveillance video. In the incident on Nov. 16, a man wearing a sweatshirt with the hood up ran up to front porch at around 9:15 pm, stole a few decor items, and ran off. A car was waiting for him at the front of the driveway. They sped off.
The detective bureau is investigating.
Residents had safely evacuated their Johnson Drive home and were uninjured after sparks from an electric outlet caused a fire in their living room on Nov. 26 at 5:06 pm.
Montgomery Police, Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2, Montgomery EMS, and Rocky Hill Fire Company responded. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. Although the house did sustain damage, Montgomery Township Fire Inspectors determined the house was still safe to occupy.
Montgomery Police responded to a Princeton North Shopping Center business for a burglary that
occurred sometime between November 30 and December 2. Officers met with the business owner,
who discovered money was taken from the business. The detective bureau is investigating.
On December 2, Montgomery Police, Montgomery Fire Company 2, Montgomery EMS and Rocky Hill
Fire Company responded to Village Shopper shopping center for a fire behind a business. Arriving
Officers were met by a Princeton Fire Official who was using an extinguisher to suppress the fire. The
fire originated in a bin behind a business after an employee placed how towels in a pile of other
towels behind the business. There was damage to the bin adjacent to the towels and the siding of the
building, however the businesses were able to remain open.
