Bicyclist Ticketed for Careless Driving after Crash with Vehicle

Posted September 12, 2024

Careless driving is a crime in New Jersey, whether it’s committed with a gas pedal or foot pedals.

Cole Coram, 21, of Belle Mead was riding his bicycle east on Belle Mead-Griggstown Road approaching Harlingen Road in Montgomery Township when he was struck by a car on August 16 at 9:55 am. Some may be surprised to learn that police ticketed the bicylist for careless driving.

Montgomery EMS transported Coram to RWJ New Brunswick with a shoulder injury, as well as road rash to both arms and legs. A police investigation determined that Coram was allegedly at fault.

Police said the bicyclist had observed a vehicle turning left onto Harlingen Road. The bike rider then attempted to cross the road to the westbound shoulder without signaling, or yielding to the eastbound vehicle behind him, resulting in the collision.

The car that crashed into Coram was driven by Varshinir Vundra, 25, of Hillsborough who was also traveling eastbound. Coram was issued a summons for careless driving and is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Municipal Court.
