Belle Mead Resident Scammed Out of $4,550

On June 12, 2020 a resident of Belle Mead reported being the victim of a telephone scam, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.


An unknown defendant contacted the victim by phone requesting bail money for a relative who had supposedly been arrested. The defendant convinced the victim to make Bitcoin wire transfers in the amount of $1750 and then an additional transfer of $2800. 

This incident is being investigated as a theft by deception and residents are warned to be extra cautious when conducting any type of financial business with a person who contacts them by phone or email.
