The Montgomery High School Theater Department will produce William Shakespeare’s classic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream — infused with a vibrant 1970s theme — on November 22 and 23.

In this classic tale, four young lovers, a troupe of amateur actors, and a host of fairies navigate the complexities of romance and enchantment in a magical forest. With its rich themes of love, illusion, and transformation, A Midsummer Night’s Dream continues to resonate with audiences of all ages.

Audiences can expect fabulous 1970s-inspired costumes, groovy music, and plenty of laughs as Montgomery's young performers, directed by David Gordon, bring new life to Shakespeare’s characters. The production features an ensemble of student musicians incorporating music by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.

The student actors say they have had a fantastic time performing a Shakespeare play.

“Understanding the motivations and emotions of my character, and working to portray those recognizably to an audience, has brought me closer to the language of Shakespeare than I otherwise would in a typical classroom setting,” said junior Amanda Baumunk.

Junior Vamsi Jamoriya told The Montgomery News that, “By seeing the show, every audience member will hopefully gain a greater appreciation for Shakespeare, especially because of our fun, accessible setting."

"I’ve never had so much fun rehearsing any play. I know that audiences will have as much fun watching this play as the cast has performing it.”
