Deadline to Apply to Fill a Vacancy on the Montgomery School Board Is Extended to March 25


Due to the resignation of president and school board member Richard Cavalli on February 26, there is a vacancy on Board of Education.

The date for interested candidates to submit their letter of interest stating their qualifications and a statement as to what they can offer the Board of Education has been extended to Monday, March 25.

The board is working to fill this vacancy as soon as possible. The individual appointed to the vacant position will serve on the board through January 2020.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest stating their qualifications and a statement as to what they can offer the Board of Education. The documents must be received no later than 4 pm on Monday, March 25.

Select candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Education on April 9.

Candidates must meet the legal qualifications to serve on the school board:

—Must be able to read and write.

—Must hold US citizenship and one year’s residency in the school district.

—Must be registered to vote in the district.

—Must not have any interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board.

—Must not hold office as mayor or member of the municipal governing body.

—Must not simultaneously hold two elective offices.

—Must not be disqualified from membership for the conviction of certain crimes. (Within 30 days of appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background investigation through the State Department of Education.)
