Rebecca Jean Downes (nee Fitts), 70, died at home in Belle Mead on August 25, after a long and courageous fight against cancer.

Rebecca was born in Morgantown, WV and grew up there. After graduating from high school and Morgantown Business College, she worked at the WVU medical center. She and her husband moved to New Jersey in 1974. They have lived in Belle Mead since 1977. As a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker she loved to cook, especially baking, and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Downes, and their daughter, Melissa Downes, as well as several cousins.
